The difference between Cape Town and ‘those other cities’ is the amount of stuff. To do. To drink. To eat. And to prove it, this is what I did this past weekend.
Friday: Played golf in the morning. Yeah, you can do that anywhere. But with these colors?
Next up, go do some work. Then rush off to Canal Walk to, oh you know, be a Jedi.
Then, time for food. Felt like pizza. So we went to Mitico’s, the new family run Italian restaurant in Kloof street. Where I had a pizza made by a crazy Italian uncle. Seriously crazy. He threw a pizza at a niece. Just for fun… I don’t have a picture, because, well, because I was hungry man!
Saturday: Breakfast at Jason’s. The bacon and cheese croissant with an iced coffee. So much emmenthal on the croissant that you have to eat it quick or its sticks to the napkin… Again, no pic, cos, well, I’d just woken up. Give me a break.
Then off to the wine farms. We wine taste a lot. And yet we discovered a whole new area, Kuilsrivier. We went to Zevenwacht, which, incidentally happened to be where we got married. And had the chocolate and wine pairing.

Chocolate. And wine. Well, I saw the chocolate, but it was eaten by The Darling so fast I almost lost a finger.
Then to Saxenburg for a couple highly rated wines, and then to Amani. Never heard of it before. But this was the view…
That view was pretty good. But this one was even better.
Then, we decided to head back to town. Cos, once again, I was hungry. So we headed to an old favorite, And Union. To try their new Bree St Burger. And it is all kinds of awesome. Flame grilled patty with emmenthal, bacon, pickle and mustard. Its sooo good. It even looks good. So I took a pic. EVEN THOUGH I WAS HUNGRY!
Then off to the Shack to play some pool. Via Stones, yuck! Where of course I annih… Nope, I lost. A lot.
Sunday: Its so pretty in town. And hot. Perfect beach weather. So lets go have lunch in Franschhoek. Unfortunately Cafe Bon Bon was full, so we headed to The Common Room at Le Quartier Francaise for a little tapas.
If you haven’t been here, do it. Tapas range from R35 to R45, and two each should be enough. I had Bacon Baby Goat Crumble and Parmesan Gnocchi, while some Satay Squid and Baked Camembert with Soldiers also ended up in my mouth. Every dish was crazy good. And I finally tried some Moreson Miss Molly. Very nice. And then perhaps I had a glass of Moreson In My Bed. Well, at the table. In a restaurant. I’ve never seen her bedroom. I did not have sex with that…
Next up, go taste some Haut Espoir at … Cafe Bon Bon. Which is all excellent. Of course. Brilliant. The best ever! (Have you seen how big the winemaker Rob Armstrong is?)
Then home again, to lie in the pool and enjoy an And Union Vs Goliath. Why? Cos I was hot, man!

Seriously, congratulations on your weekend!
What a piece of the earth to live upon, magnificent. You MUST try Delaire Graaf when next Franschoek area – on Helshoogte pass going to Stellenbosch. The views are simply ridiculous. If you ask you wife to marry you again out on the terrace, on the spur of the moment, she will just say ‘yes’.
